Carry On Luggage Guide

There are many websites that will give you up to date flight security information. Individual airlines may change the carry on luggage requirements at any time so it is best to check with your airline prior to your flight. You can use this information below as a guide only. The FAA has limited passengers to the following who are flying within the U.S. or on international flights going to and from the U.S: one piece of carry on luggage and one personal bag. You may also bring on board a coat or jacket. The personal bag is a handbag, briefcase, camera case, laptop case, or small backpack. On crowded and oversold flights you may be asked to relinquish some or all of your carry on luggage. Some airlines have different rules for different types of aircraft or passenger classes. Always include the wheels when measuring your carry on luggage.

Measure the length, width and height of your bag. It should not exceed 45 inches. Remember that most carry on compartments aboard the airplane are typically 10x16x24 inches. Your bag must fit in this overhead compartment or underneath the seat ahead of you. Your personal bag must also fit either in the overhead compartment or beneath the seat ahead of you. If you have already put a bag overhead, they will usually ask you to put your second bag under the seat ahead.

The following websites can give you updated information and changes in airport security and carry on luggage restrictions. Do check with your airline prior to your flight and also you can check : www.tsa.gov/, www.faa.gov/, www.flytecomm.com .

The newest regulation has been the three-one-one requirement for liquids and gels. Basically, you can pack cosmetics and creams in your baggage, but any liquids you carry on must be in bottles or jars of three ounce or less, in a one quart sized clear plastic ziplock or zippered bag, and one per person. You can buy bottled water for yourself once you clear security. If you wish to lock your luggage, use the TSA locks. These can be opened by airport security, and are the only locks permitted.
